Isaac I. Stevens letters, 1853-1858.

Two letters written by Stevens from Washington, D.C. The first, dated Feb. 16, 1858, to Rev. A.P. Peabody of Portsmouth, N.H., concerns Charles C. Cushman, whom Stevens recommends for postmaster at New Dungeness, Washington Territory. The second letter, dated April 18, 1853, to Edmund Sylvester, Esq., of Olympia, concerns a territorial census and the building of a military road from Walla Walla to Puget Sound.
